Chennai, India — Trident Hotel

We were here one night July 15, 2024 in preparation for our late morning flight from the nearby Chennai airport to Singapore and onward to Bali, Indonesia. Here's another "best airport hotel" for our blog! — the 5-star Trident Hotel Chennai International Airport in India. After a honk-filled, riveting sightseeing ride up the coast from Auroville, we arrived near the airport to total comfort and luxury graciously extended by Jainil and his team. 🙏🏽 We talked their ears off and became fast friends! Thank you so much for the room upgrade! The splurgy one night stay included sumptuous dinner and breakfast buffets and a special spa sauna. It was the perfect farewell to our month in India! Trident is part of the top-notch Oberoi Hotels and Resorts Group.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tokyo-Haneda — Kawasaki King Skyfront Tokyu REI Hotel

We stayed here April 5-8, 2024 for the Kanamara Matsui Festival (“the penis festival'“) but inadvertently discovered not just the proximity to Haneda airport but also the hotel’s frequent airport shuttle making this a very good airport hotel stay-over in the greater Tokyo area. It’s only ten minutes from the terminal. We’ve flown into both Narita and Haneda airports. From Narita we haven’t need an overnight hotel nearby but for future visits this is the place near Haneda!

Singapore — Park Avenue Changi Hotel

We stayed here overnight April 20, 2024 (US$161/ without breakfast). We were en route to Bali from Osaka. Got a good night sleep. Received a free upgrade to a one bedroom suite and appreciated the extra space. Were only here for 12 hours. Breakfast available S$29 per person. It’s a short walk from the Expo MRT — the first stop on the East-West line from the airport terminus (follow exit signs to “Changi Business Park” from Downtown line level). Nice supermarket steps away (where we bought a cheaper breakfast to-go. A value-priced overnightnight option very close to Changi International airport. Liked it, didn’t love it. Would probably stay again. Good Indian food directly across from front desk area in food court. Plenty of other options too.

See our Singapore page for another option — Hotel Boss. Ride on the train a little further — it’s walking distance from Lavender MRT.

San Jose, Costa Rica — Studio Hotel

We’ve stayed twice in this stunning destination hotel property in the suburban town of Santa Ana — just outside Costa Rica's capital city of San Jose. While not marketed as an airport hotel we consider it one anyway. We did stay at an area airport hotel and were disappointed only afterwards realizing that the Studio Hotel was not far away and that for future airport hotel stayovers we would gladly come back here again.

In addition to great hotel conveniences and amenities, you will be captivated by Costa Rica's largest private art collection on display throughout the property both inside and out. And all the artists are Costa Rican! Be sure to ask for one of the handful of rooms specially prepared with the same quality of art found in the common areas. See our video review below.

Madrid, Spain — Hotel Maydrit

What a great airport hotel in Madrid! We stayed four nights in mid-May 2023 at Hotel Maydrit ($150 /night) including breakfast. It’s really close to the airport with a shuttle. It surprised us it was in a great little friendly neighborhood with many great conveniences and it was just an easy 30 minute metro to central Madrid. It’s a great option at this price point.

Istanbul, Turkiye — MQ Hotel Suites

Escape the concrete jungle of most airport hotel areas! This is one of the best airport hotels ever. Stayed 2 nights mid-September 2023. Great sea suite across from Black Sea with big balcony (in the Karaburun area of greater Istanbul. Only 20-30 minutes via convenient hotel shuttle (€15/person). Olga the masseuse in the spa (hammam opening soon) is very good. Ahmet at front desk was also terrific. Reservation included a very good breakfast. And dinner in the restaurant was consistently good and was attended by a 5-star wait staff. And there's a huge pool. Just wow. Great value. Our go-to stop over in Istanbul from now on! [We avoid Mideast airports and choose Istanbul instead, when possible.]

Bangalore, India — Clarks Exotica Convention Resort & Spa

We’ve stayed twice at Clarks Exotica near the Bangalore airport. It’s an easy transfer in an upscale residential development with a private pool and recreation club for residents adjacent to the hotel. Nice setup. On our first vist you could walk around the residential area but on our second visit that access had been restricted. Great restaurant. Allow plenty of time back to the airport due to unanticipated traffic (see video below).
