Sunset Fort Hotel — Galle, Sri Lanka

In 2025, we visit Sri Lanka twice, both for one month-long stays. The first, in February for two weeks in Kandy plus three stops in the south, and again in late May/early June on the east coast. After several visits, we’ve settled on starting any visit with three nights at Gomez Place in Negombo. It’s LGBT-friendly and close to the ocean and lots of restaurants. After our favorite Airbnb in Kandy, we enjoy Ell, Yala and Galle. In May we return to the “secret beach” of Nilaveli where we have a three-week reservation at Nilaveli Beach Condos. We’ll add a stop at Sigiriya on way back to Gomez Place and the airport. Our travel guide and good friend, Ayesh, makes it easy.
