Reflections on the United States of America 2025
We are so sick of this autocratic, kleptocratic shit! May I speak bluntly? For nine years we’ve never wanted to include the USA in our blog. We’ve both traveled extensively throughout our home country for 60+ years. But only now when we’ve been away far longer than we’ve been home recently are we willing to record some of our American experiences. What a strung out shit storm the country is in 2025!
Assuming we’re not detained at our own border (perhaps for being registered for the “wrong” political party), we are holding our noses and ‘going in’ with grief and trepidation from August 12 - September 15, 2025. That will be enough for another year of continuing travel abroad into 2026. We’ve got friends to see, family to love on and property we have to check.
But without access to our home we’ve rented, now we return to staying in hotels and Airbnbs. So as if we were tourists we’ll be visiting our home town (the proudly liberal bastion) of Portland, Oregon and some spots in northern Ohio to see family.
