Reflections on Chile
We had one regret about our visit to Chile — we had a change of travel plans and did not begin our exploration in Antofagasta and the Atacama region. Coming out of Peru, we skipped our plans to visit Bolivia and this far northern region of Chile. And because our remaining time in south America on our 2024 Naturale Tour was consumed in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, we confined our Chilean visit to Santiago and Easter Island. Both were wonderful — no regrets there!
Chile is among the most economically prosperous countries in South America with a per capita GDP of $15.5K (only Uruguay is higher at $21K) and felt the relative prosperity during our visit. Santiago is a beautiful city and we saw just a slice of it from the vantage point of the upscale Providencia neighborhood when we dropped into an exceedingly comfortable Airbnb 2-bedroom apartment.
Easter Island is a next level epic destination and our time there was enhanced by befriending a wonderful guy sharing our airplane row seat on the way there whom we managed to connect with on the small island a couple of times during our four night stay.
We flew to North America from Santiago’s wonderful international airport. We look forward to returning when we will explore the far reaches of the desert in the north and Patagonia in the south.
