Our visit to Jordan, immediately following the conclusion of our tour in Egypt, was a quick three nights but we really managed to get a feel for this beautiful, small country. We had a truly top-notch tour guide, Sami, who met us at the airport and was with us until we left. Sami is from a bedouin family, holds two Ph.D’s from universities in Germany and the U.K., was a former member of their parliament and would appear to know everyone in the entire country. We got lessons from him in history, in the political economy through the modern period and insight into the daily life lived by Jordanians today. He was singularly responsible for cramming us full of Holy Land info. What a gift. We are forever grateful. Dr. Robert Schock and his wife Catherine Ulissey, our co-hosts in Egypt too, accompanied us and I believe this helped attract a dynamite guide for our short visit.
Below are the hotels where we stayed and a selection of additional pics. See our Jordan Grand Tour Highlights for much more on our visit to Petra Archeological Park, Mount Nebo, the Dead Sea and the Citadel of Amman.

We love discovering cultural and historical sites in big cities and small. But just those destinations alone don't make the trip complete! Connecting with local people and other travelers is our passion. See a lot of these incredible people on our Friends page.
